Slide of the Week: November 15th, 2008

Nov 23 - “Disneyland” tour of Downtown Los Angeles

Nov 23 - 'Disneyland' tour of Downtown Los Angeles

This slide was marked “field trip, 1959.” I don’t now where they’re going on their school bus, but I know where I’m going on mine, next SUNDAY, NOV 23RD, I’m giving a tour of downtown Los Angeles. And you may come along!

On this amazing, eye opening, urban-adventure-extravaganza of the highest order you’ll rediscover the heart and soul of the city the way I have. It’s just like a theme park. There is no mistaking it, we don’t have one Disneyland we have two. You will never see downtown Los Angeles the same way again!

This fun-filled six-hour school bus and walking tour begins downtown at Union Station at 11am sharp and ends there at 5pm. Transportation, souvenirs, museum and show tickets and delicious snacks are all included in the $75.00 ticket price.

Here are some of the “attractions” on the tour:

On “MAIN STREET USA,” tour UNION STATION (1939) the last grand train station built in the U.S., walk through the ARCADE (1922), downtown’s oldest shopping mall, see BATCHELDER tiled remains of THE DUTCH CHOCOLATE SHOP (1911), tour the futuristic BRADBURY BUILDING (1894,) take in the GRAND CENTRAL MARKET (1918), see ANGEL’S FLIGHT (1901), the “shortest railroad in the world” and have a “GREAT MOMENT’S WITH MR. LINCOLN” moment.

In “ADVENTURELAND” experience the highlights of LA’s oldest and most colorful themed environments, OLVERA STREET (1930) and OLD CHINATOWN (1938), where you will see many exotic things.

In “FRONTIERLAND” have lunch at the biggest restaurant in town, CLIFTON’S BROOKDALE CAFETERIA (1935) then pass by “THE RIVERS OF AMERICA”

In “FANTASYLAND” enjoy a live performance at the legendary THE BOB BAKER MARIONETTE THEATER (1961), then eat delicious cake and ice cream in the colorful party room.

In “TOMORROWLAND” ride on downtown’s “MONORAIL,” the “highway in the sky” and “AUTOPIA,” the freeway of the future, then discover the giant flying saucer fountain in THE SUNKEN GARDEN (1958).

Finally visit the “THE HAUNTED MANSIONS,” the famous Victorian Homes on CARROLL AVENUE followed by downtown’s “CASTLE,” THE WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL- the city’s newest architectural icon.
And much, much, much more!

This is one tour you will not soon forget. Tickets are available here. There are no future tour dates planned.

Here’s to School Bus Field Trips, both Disneylands and you!

Looks like Annie Oakley in front row. These kids could’ve been classmates three years earlier. They seem familiar until you realize that they all look familiar when we see our peers of years gone by.
