Slide of the Week: November 11th, 2004
Sinclair Oil Gas Station, Spring Hill, Florida, 1965
Miniature green dinosaurs top gas pumps. Bright pennants rustle in the bluster. It has just rained. A giant stucco dinosaur is a gas station. The year is 1965
Last Saturday night, half way out the front door leaving a party the host said to me "Hey, I have something for you, I want you to have these." And he hands me two vintage souvenirs from Dinoland, Sinclair Oil’s dinosaur exhibit at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair. First a green plastic injection molded dinosaur marked "Sinclair-Dinoland." Second a dinosaur shaped green bar of soap boxed and marked with the Sinclair Logo. Divine providence or coincidence? Not eight hours before I was going through a newfound collection of old slides and picked this image out as the highlight of the bunch. Seemed like it was Sinclair Oil Day at my house and I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

Just to let everyone know, the giant stucco Dinosaur is still right where it was in 1965 and looks just as it did in that picture.. No more gas pumps though. If you ever go to Florida, check spring hill out and see the great Big Dino

there is another one about a mile down the road as well, and though it is smaller and does not have a building, it is bright pink. keep your eyes peeled

My friend was cleaning out her fathers haouse after he had passed away. She had found several bars of soap from sinclair gas stations. Could you please give me a ballpark value on these bars of soaps. My friend out greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

I grew up in St. Petersburg (about an hour south of Spring Hill) and used to pass this beauty a couple of times a year as my family headed out of state for vacations in the 60s and 70s. Great to hear that it’s still standing!

When I was little I always thought this was a theme park and could never understand why my mom didn’t take me there. We passed it every day so i thought one day she would finally bring me. Now I understand but, I still think that dinosour is awsome! It’s cool to know that its still there and see it every once in a while when I take a trip back home.. away from the red clay of Georgia.

I remember getting the dinosaur soaps at the Sinclair gas station when I was a little girl in Pleasant Hill Mo. It was in the 1960’s.
